The Red Wings' downward spiral almost looked as though it had reversed itself last night, when the team managed three unanswered third-period goals to take the lead over the Oilers. But Edmonton's tying goal with 29 seconds left, followed by a scoreless overtime period, put the advantage squarely with the Oilers, who won 4-3, Detroit News reports.

The NHL's best shootout team did what it's done 12 times before, and the Red Wings fell to 1-7-2 in their last 10 games. Chris Osgood got 26 saves for Detroit, but was plagued all night by Edmonton's Tom Gilbert, who got his goal early and then assisted on his team's other two. (More NHL stories.)
