An Ohio judge sentenced Bobby Lee Cutts to life in prison with possible parole in 57 years for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend after the jury recommended against the death penalty, CNN reports. Judge Charles Brown added years to the jury's recommended sentence—life in prison with parole in 30 years—after hearing statements from the victim’s family.

"I don't believe that you are sorry for what you did. I believe that you are sorry that you got caught up in all your lies,” said Whitney Davis, sister of Jessie, the victim. Cutts, 30, a former police officer in Canton, had asked the jury yesterday to spare his life. His girlfriend, 26, was nine months' pregnant. (More murder stories.)
