North Korea Debuts 310 New Slogans

What 1945 brought to North Korea: Japan's rule over the country ended and the governing Worker's Party of Korea came into being. The 70th anniversaries are being honored as only North Korea could: With the release of 310 new exclamation-point-laden slogans touching on everything from fish farming to the country's schism with South Korea to the need for the country's children to have more food. Reuters reports that the slogans, when translated, clock in at a mouthy 7,000 words and were published by the official KCNA news agency. The intended outcome: that they be memorized; Reuters notes "government policy is often dictated via vague party-level directives." A sampling, via Reuters, the AFP, and Yonhap:

• "Let us turn ours into a country of mushrooms!"
• "Grow vegetables extensively in greenhouses!"
• "Let the strong wind of fish farming blow across the country!"
• "Let us turn the whole country into a socialist fairyland by the joint operation of the army and people!"
• "Should the enemy dare to invade our country, annihilate them to the last man so that none of them will survive to sign the instrument of surrender!"
• "Make tireless efforts with an extraordinary determination to resolve the problems of the people's living at any cost!"
