Movie stars aren't exempt from Australia's strict quarantine laws, and Johnny Depp's Yorkshire terriers will be put down unless the actor gets them out of the country by Saturday, warns Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce. Depp is in the country filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and Joyce issued the ultimatum today after discovering the dogs, Boo and Pistol, had been "snuck in" on Depp's private jet instead of being declared to customs officials, the BBC reports. Joyce says officials discovered the dogs were in the country after they were taken to a groomer, the Guardian reports.
"There is a process if you want to bring animals: You get the permits, they go into quarantine, and then you can have them," Joyce tells ABC Australia, saying if the country lets movie stars—"even though they've been the sexiest man alive twice"—break the laws, "then why don't we just break the laws for everybody?" "It's time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States," he says, suggesting Depp "put them on the same chartered jet he flew out on to fly them back out of our nation." Joyce admits that after the blunt warning, he doesn't expect an invite to the opening of the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, the Guardian notes. An online petition urging Joyce to spare the dogs has gained more than 2,000 signatures. (More Australia stories.)
