A California teenager who spotted an idling van in front of Oakland City Hall couldn't resist the temptation to jump into the driver's seat and try to steal it, police say. The problem is that the unmarked vehicle happened to be a KPIX news van—with reporter Da Lin working up a story in the back of it, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. Lin yelled at the unarmed teen, who jumped out and was apprehended by a KPIX security guard nearby. Police have charged Marshawn Daniels, 18, with attempted auto theft. (So why would TV stations send out security guards with their crews? Because of incidents like this and this.)
