If the Chicago Bears were still giving Ray McDonald more chances, he would be up to at least four by now. The defensive lineman was arrested yesterday—for the second time in less than 72 hours—for allegedly violating a restraining order issued after he was accused of assaulting a woman holding a baby on Monday, reports NBC Bay Area. The Santa Clara Police Department says McDonald, who was free on bail after Monday's arrest on charges of domestic violence and child endangerment, violated the order by being at a residence where he wasn't supposed to be and was taken into custody without incident at a nearby sandwich shop, the AP reports.

McDonald's lawyer, however, claims there was no restraining order in place. He tells ESPN that McDonald—who allegedly broke down a door during Monday's incident—had been told to stay away from his fiancee, but that he had been informed she wasn't home before he went to her house with a private investigator to take photos of the door. The Bears released McDonald after his arrest on Monday, and Chairman George McCaskey, who decided to sign the former 49er despite earlier legal troubles, says he feels regret, disappointment, and most of all, sadness, the Chicago Tribune reports. "Sadness for the child, for the child's mother, and for the entire situation," says McCaskey, who initially vetoed the signing but changed his mind after speaking to McDonald and his parents.
