After Rebecca Townsend was struck and killed by a car on her way home from a fireworks display on July 2, heartbroken friends and relatives discovered that the 17-year-old had written a "bucket list" years earlier—and completed it in her final moments. The list, which was part of a high school assignment, said: "Kiss in the rain. Fly to Spain. Save a life (not really scary though.)" The Danbury, Conn., teen's sister tells BuzzFeed that Rebecca had traveled to Spain, and kissed her boyfriend in the rain—and a friend injured by the same car says the last thing he can remember is Rebecca pushing him out of the way.
Rebecca had just graduated from Immaculate High School, whose principal tells the NewsTimes that she was a "wonderful, wonderful person" who founded the school's chapter of She's the First, a charity that helps girls in the world's poorest countries. On Remembering Rebecca, a Facebook page in her memory, relatives explain that the "bucket list" assignment was returned at the end of her senior year and they found it on her bed marked "For Future Rebecca Townsend." The page urges people to "keep Rebecca's spirit alive by showing kindness to others," and people have responded by setting up blood drives and founding new chapters of She's the First.
