It was Jon Stewart's penultimate Daily Show last night and he had some news to break to people who write online headlines: Over the last 16 years, he hasn't actually skewered, eviscerated, crucified, crushed, or annihilated anybody. Instead, he lamented, targets like ISIS, racism, and Wall Street are still going strong—and Fox News, rather than seeing its influence fade, is now deciding which Republican candidates get to take part in debates and will decide "the next leader of the free world." "The world is demonstrably worse than when I started! Have I caused this?" Stewart asked.
"Hath my efforts all been for naught?" he pondered, producing a skull as the lights dimmed. "As I shuffle off this basic cable coil, must I discover my years of evisceration have embettered nothing? Sixteen years of barbs and jeers spurred none to greatness." But he ended the segment on a high note, rejoicing that after years of poking fun at them, the Mets are finally doing well, Mediaite notes. His guest was Louis CK, the third of the final three guests announced for this week. Stewart's last show airs tonight and Comedy Central plans to start a marathon of Daily Show episodes at 10:30am. (He has already given producers what they called "the exit interview of all exit interviews.")
