Disturbing details of the alleged rape gripping St. Paul's School were laid out yesterday in the second day of Owen Labrie's trial in Concord, NH. The alleged victim, then 15, says she initially declined to meet Labrie, then 18, on the roof of a campus building as part of a "senior salute" tradition, believing he had "bad intentions" and wanted "to kiss me or something." But then one of his friends "managed to convince me that it was innocent and Owen Labrie wouldn't do anything against my will," she says, per ABC News. Reconsidering, she thought "it would be cool" to go to a restricted area with "one of the most popular boys," and might get a kiss out of it. They did kiss, on May 30, 2014 in a maintenance room to which Labrie led her, but then he started groping, biting, and spitting on her, and tried to take off her underwear, she says, per the New York Times.
"I said, 'No, no, no, keep it up here,'" she says, gesturing above her waist. "I tried to be as polite as possible." Suddenly, she alleges, Labrie was "scraping" the inside of her body with his hands and penetrating her with his penis. "I felt like I was frozen," she says. "I didn't want to offend him," she adds. "I feel like I had objected as much as I felt I could at the time." In messages the pair exchanged afterwards, Labrie said he wore a condom during part of the encounter, the girl says. She still received emergency contraception at a school medical office, telling a nurse when asked that the sexual encounter was consensual. "It was so much easier," the girl says. "It's been really hard to stand up." Labrie, who is expected to testify, has pleaded not guilty to 10 counts, including aggravated felonious sexual assault.
