"You've got to be kidding me." That was Jessica Baker's reaction to receiving a bill for the two herb-crusted walleye dinners she and her husband missed out on when they were forced to skip a relative's wedding at the last minute, KARE reports. The $75.90 bill, complete with service charge and tax, came with a note that read: "This cost reflects the amount paid by bride and groom for meals that were RSVPed for, reimbursement and explanation for no show, card, call, or text would be appreciated." Baker and her husband had to skip the Aug. 29 wedding—which specified no kids—when her mother, the couple's babysitter for the occasion, called in sick, according to ABC News.
Baker admits they didn't let the bride and groom know they wouldn't be showing but figured they'd talk to them later, ABC reports. "We’d had people RSVP and no-show to our wedding, and I knew when I got married I didn’t want to be bothered with phone calls on the day of my wedding," Baker says. They'd already apologized to the bride's brother when the bill showed up this week. “Obviously they were hurt if they sent us an invoice, but I just didn’t feel there was a whole lot I could do to rectify the situation," Baker says. According to KARE, Baker has no intention of paying the bill, which she posted to Facebook and then threw away. But she tells ABC she may take one commenter's suggestion to donate $75.90 to charity and pass along the receipt. (More wedding stories.)
