Stocks are closing solidly higher on Wall Street, continuing a weeklong advance. Investors were relieved Thursday by minutes from the Federal Reserve's latest meeting, which showed that policymakers were in wide agreement to keep rates low. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 138 points, or 0.8%, to 17,050. The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 17 points, or 0.9%, to 2,013. The Nasdaq composite increased 19 points, or 0.4%, to 4,810.
Energy stocks rose more than the rest of the market as the price of oil continued to recover. Chevron rose 2%. Industrial and basic materials companies also rose. Netflix jumped 6% after the video streaming company said it would raise its prices. Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.10%. (More Dow Jones stories.)
