Authorities are hoping the media can help solve the mystery of young girl found alone in a park in a small Croatian town last month, Sky News reports. Authorities are calling the girl Nina, though they have no idea what her name is or how old she is; they initially didn't even know what language she spoke, but she seems to be responding to a Romanian dialect, EuroNews reports. Authorities believe she may have become separated from migrants or refugees entering Western Europe through Croatia. More than 330,000 migrants have entered Croatia in the past two months.
The AP reports Nina, who authorities believe is around 3 years old, was transported to Croatia's capital of Zagreb after being found in Velika Gorica. "She accepts new people and the new atmosphere. It is obvious that she has been brought up in a good family and that they care a lot about her," says the manager of the children's home where Nina is staying. The media is being invited to take pictures of the little girl in the hopes of getting her family's attention. According to Sky News, authorities are looking for "anyone anywhere" who recognizes the girl. (In the US, a family was able to identify an adult relative who had lost all memory about who she was.)
