President Obama just joined Facebook Monday, and his page already has almost 90,000 likes (and counting—quickly). As CNN and The Verge note, this page is Obama's own personal page, as opposed to his campaign page (run by Organizing for Action) and the official White House page (run by White House staff). Obama's "About" section reads, "Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States." Timeline highlights on the page mark the important occasions of his life (birth, marriage, became a state senator, became a US senator, became president, became president again), and his first post is a video of him taking a walk in his backyard as he talks about climate change.
"Hello, Facebook!" he writes. "I finally got my very own page. I hope you’ll think of this as a place where we can have real conversations about the most important issues facing our country—a place where you can hear directly from me, and share your own thoughts and stories. (You can expect some just-for-fun stuff, too.)."
