A towering crane that ripped through two buildings and hit a third is one of the worst construction accidents in New York history, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said today. "It is a tragic event," he said. "It's a horrible situation, very gory," New York Governor designate David Paterson said. "There's blood in the street." Rescue crews are ready to work all night to dig people out of toppled buildings on East 51st Street, an upscale avenue that is now littered with overturned cars and piles of rubble, Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta told the AP.
