A story about a marathon, a story about a dog, and a story about a dog in a marathon make the list:

  • Boston Marathon Survivor to Run Race: Adrianne Haslet-Davis, who lost most of her left leg in the Boston Marathon bombing, will run the marathon this year. What's all the more interesting is that she wasn't a runner the year of the bombing.
  • George Clooney Is This Rescue Dog's Hero: Nate the terrier was rescued out of a 22-dog hoarding situation, and he was skinny with a barrel chest and a birth defect—"a leg that swayed" and caused him to walk "like a hyena." People stared and pointed at adoption events, but nobody wanted him. That's your cue, George Clooney.

  • Race Gets an Unusual Entrant: A half-marathon in Alabama had a most unlikely finisher in the form of a hound dog named Ludivine. Owner April Hamlin says she let Ludivine out and only learned later that he had run the full 13.1-mile race. Organizers simply couldn't let the feat go unrewarded.
  • Dad Films Moment Dying Teen Realizes He Survived: "I'm so happy. I've been waiting so long. I can breathe again, and talk. I feel amazing." Those are the words uttered by a crying Trevor Sullivan as the 15-year-old was awakening from anesthesia following a successful heart transplant. How do we know? Because of one amazing video.
  • Town Welcomes Its First Baby Since 1987: Baby Pablo came into the world in the hillside village of Ostana in northern Italy—and a remarkable arrival he is. Not a single child had been born in Ostana since 1987, and thus Pablo got an extra-special welcome.
