Man Allegedly Smuggled Live Birds in His Pants

We would have been concerned about birds' well-documented taste for worms, but to each their own. A traveler arriving from Cuba was caught trying to smuggle nine live birds—three of them in the "groin area" of his pants—Jan. 9 at Miami International Airport, according to US Customs and Border Protection. When the man arrived in Miami, he was "selected … for further examination." "It’s unclear if officials were tipped off by any tweeting, warbling, or other melodious bird noises," Consumerist notes. According to US Customs, officers found three birds in the man's pants and another six crammed into small plastic tubes inside a fanny pack.
