John Oliver has mostly ignored Donald Trump on Last Week Tonight. On Sunday, his silence came to an end with what Vox calls the "Trump takedown America has been waiting for." He started by calling Trump "America's back mole: it may have seemed harmless a year ago, but now that it's gotten frighteningly bigger, it is no longer wise to ignore it," per the Daily Beast. He then attacked him as "a litigious serial liar" who's advocated for war crimes and was once $8 billion in debt, according to his daughter. In not rejecting an endorsement by a former KKK leader, "you are either racist or you are pretending to be," Oliver adds. At least Trump tells it like it is, right? "PolitiFact checked 77 of his statements, and rated 76% of them as varying degrees of false," Oliver says.
Sure, Trump hasn't taken any corporate money, but "the implication that he has personally spent $20 (million) to $25 million is a bit of a stretch, because what he's actually done is loaned his own campaign $17.5 million and has just personally given just $250,000. And that's important, because up until the convention he can pay himself back for the loan with campaign funds," Oliver says. He argues people are simply "blinded by the magic of his name." Since Trump family's name was once Drumpf, Oliver has launched a website where people can download a browser extension that replaces Trump with Drumpf. Drumpf is "the sound produced when a morbidly obese pigeon flies into the window of a foreclosed Old Navy" and "much more reflective of who he actually is," Oliver notes. (More Donald Trump stories.)
