Couple: Son's Peanut Allergy Got Us Booted From Flight

Kyson and Sara Dana were just trying to make sure their son, Theo, would be safe as they flew from Provo, Utah, back home to Oakland, California, on Monday. They approached a flight attendant on their Allegiant Air flight to mention that the toddler has a peanut allergy. They just wanted to know "is there anything you can do, like can you not serve peanuts around us, is there anything you can do to help accommodate for that," Kyson tells Fox 13. Instead, the couple says they ended up getting booted from the plane, even though they were prepared for the flight with their son's epinephrine pen and sanitation wipes for the seats. They also assured the flight crew that they knew the airline was not responsible for any adverse reactions, they tell ABC News.

Though one flight attendant asked the passengers around them not to eat any peanuts, and the passengers agreed, the first flight attendant advised them not to take the flight and a third flight attendant ultimately approached the family and told them, Kyson says, that after consulting with the pilot and a medical professional, the flight team had decided to have the family "removed" from the plane for safety reasons. Allegiant tells ABC a "third party organization that advises Allegiant and other carriers when making decisions about the safety of passengers with potential medical issues" recommended "that the family not fly on that specific flight," and notes that the airline provided tickets on another carrier for the same day. SFist reports that Kyson has been getting hate mail since the story got picked up, including one note telling him to "think twice before you ask the world around you to change their behaviors to accommodate your personal issues."
