Obama to Trump: This Is Not a Reality Show

Being president of the United States isn't like hosting Celebrity Apprentice, President Obama warned in his first remarks on Donald Trump since the Republican became his party's presumptive nominee. "We are in serious times and this is a really serious job. This is not entertainment," the president said Friday when reporters asked about Trump, per Reuters. "This is not a reality show. This is a contest for the presidency of the United States." He told the media that it was time for them to start taking a close look at Trump's record and policies instead of emphasizing "the spectacle and the circus," the New York Times reports."Every candidate, every nominee needs to be subject to exacting standards and genuine scrutiny," he said.

Obama said GOP voters, especially women, need realize Trump is now "their standard-bearer" and ask themselves: "Is that the guy I feel comfortable with representing me and what I care about?" Asked about Trump's Cinco de Mayo taco tweet, Obama said that "as a general rule," he doesn't pay attention to Trump's tweets—and it's going to stay that way. When Fox 5 asked Joe Biden about the tweet Friday, he said: "I wish he were a smarter guy than this. I hope he reaches the point where he figures out that it’s not a game show and he talks in earnest about where he would take the country. Because that is the kind of debate the public deserves."
