Forty dead tiger cubs and other animal parts were discovered Monday during a raid to free tigers from a popular tourist site in Thailand, known as the Tiger Temple. Wildlife officials—who accuse the temple of wildlife trafficking and animal abuse—say the cubs were days old when they died; it isn't clear how long they had been in the freezer. The BBC notes tiger body parts are used in traditional Chinese medicine. However, the temple says cubs "do occasionally die for various reasons" and have been "preserved in jars or kept frozen" since 2010—rather than being cremated—perhaps as proof that they had not been sold.
