In a bow to Bernie Sanders' campaign, Hillary Clinton picked up one of the causes he championed on Saturday, reports the Hill—that of overturning the 2010 Supreme Court ruling that opened the floodgates on corporate political donations. "Today I’m announcing that in my first 30 days as president, I will propose a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and give the American people—all of us—the chance to reclaim our democracy," Clinton said in a video for Netroots Nation. "I will also appoint Supreme Court justices who understand that this decision was a disaster for our democracy. And I will fight for other progressive reforms, including small-dollar matching and disclosure requirements."
The appeal to Sanders supporters was not subtle: "Now, I know many of the people in this room supported Senator Sanders in the primary," Clinton said. "You've helped put political and campaign finance reform at the top of the national agenda and I intend to keep it there." Clinton also pledged, via executive order, to force companies with federal contracts to disclose their political spending, notes USA Today. (More Citizens United stories.)
