Ivanka—the penultimate Trump to speak at the GOP convention—hailed her father as "the people's nominee" and the "single most qualified person to serve as chief executive of an $18 trillion economy" in an introduction speech clearly aimed at winning back women voters. In the Trump Organization, "women are paid equally for the work that they do, and when a woman becomes a mother she is supported, not shut out," said Ivanka. "As president, my father will change the labor laws," she said, per the Guardian, "and he will focus on making quality childcare affordable and accessible for all." The 34-year-old said that like many millennials, she doesn't consider herself a Democrat or a Republican—but the choice is clear this time around.
By introducing Trump, his eldest daughter was performing what has traditionally been the role of the nominee's spouse, the Washington Post notes. In her speech, Ivanka looked back to playing with Lego in Trump's office as a child and said she had "learned a lot about the world from walking construction sites" by the side of her father. "There have always been men of all backgrounds and ethnicities on my father's job sites, and women long before it was common." She got one of her biggest cheers when she said: "Politicians talk about wage equality, but my father has made it a practice at his company throughout his entire career.
