Oilers Best Rival Flames to Keep Hopes Alight
Chicago Blackhawks' Duncan Keith (2) and Dustin Byfuglein (52) push St. Louis Blues' David Perron, rear, into the net in the second period in an NHL hockey game Saturday, March 29, 2008.   (Asssociated Press)

Not much happened for the first 45 minutes of the Oilers' matchup with the Flames, except for 37 shots on goal. Then three more shots led to three goals within a five-minute span, and when the ice had cleared Edmonton had the 2-1 victory—and the shot at a playoff run, reports the National Post. In hockey action farther south:

Duncan Keith and Craig Adams each had a goal and assist on the way to a 4-0 Chicago lead that was nearly squandered in the third period. St. Louis got as close as 4-3 in a rollicking game featuring 20 penalties and plenty of fights. The win keeps the Blackhawks in tenuous reach of the playoffs, while the Blues remain in the basement.
