Apparently the problem with North Korea is we're all being a little too hard on it. Let British YouTube star Louis Cole explain. Cole, whose YouTube page has nearly 2 million subscriptions, released a music video called Surfin in the DPRK following a state-run vacation to North Korea. He says he's "trying to focus on positive things in the country and combat the purely negative image we see in the media." William Turton of Gizmodo says the video "takes the cake" for the most disgusting thing he's ever seen on the internet. "This isn’t some biting political commentary that touches on the atrocities carried out by the North Korean dictatorship, but rather a fun, lighthearted video about 'bringing our wold together,'" Turton writes.

Turton calls Cole "delusional." The YouTuber posted videos throughout his trip seemingly unaware it was set up to make North Korea look good. Among the things not mentioned by Cole: poverty, labor camps, starvation, and a fear-mongering dictator. Turton says Cole "doesn't seem to get it" and believes the real problem with North Korea is that it and the world just need to come together with a chill song. "We hope Cole enjoys the YouTube ad revenue," Turton concludes. Click for his full post. Or for Cole's response to a barrage of similar criticism, via the Guardian. (More North Korea stories.)
