Nevada Murder Suspect Walks Out of Police Station

Cops in Nevada are searching for a murder suspect who sneaked out of a police interrogation room, reports NBC News. Alonso Perez, 25, gave cops the slip on Friday after an investigator who was questioning him in the station in North Las Vegas stepped out. Perez twisted his handcuffs until they snapped, then bolted, said police spokesman Aaron Patty. “I've never seen anything like this in my career here," he said. On Saturday, cops found the white Ford pickup Perez stole to make his getaway—but no Perez. Cops said the suspect—6-foot-3, 200 pounds—has a 3-inch “Air Jordan” tattoo on the left side of his neck, the Review-Journal reports.

Perez had been picked up Friday morning for questioning in the death Mohammed Robinson, 31, on Aug. 27. Robinson was shot outside a McDonald’s after a dispute when he failed to hold the door open for a woman, reports KSNV. The woman complained to a man she was with, who in turn pulled out a gun and shot Robinson, cops said. Robinson’s sister, Maggie, angrily demanded to know how a suspected murderer could walk out of a police station. "You couldn't have another person there?" she asked KSNV. Patty said police were “just as frustrated ourselves” and would investigate the mistake. "But the bigger focus is,” he added, “we have a homicide suspect on the loose."
