Cleveland catcher Victor Martinez was injured in a second straight home opener, and ace C.C. Sabathia and closer Joe Borowski both looked shaky, reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Nonetheless, the Indians prevailed against the White Sox, 10-8, on Casey Blake's three-run ninth-inning double. Chicago starter Mark Buehrle was downright woeful, exiting during a seven-run second inning.

The turning point was the eighth inning, after the White Sox had battled back to 7-7; Indians reliever Rafael Betancourt loaded the bases with no outs. Cleveland then benefitted from two controversial calls: a debated tag at home for the first out, and then an interference double play as Orlando Cabrera wrapped his arms around Jhonny Peralta trying to break up the relay at second base.
