Monday night saw what the Guardian describes as the "first violent incident at a Trump rally in months" when a Donald Trump supporter punched protesters at a campaign event in Asheville, NC. The New York Daily News reports that the unidentified supporter, possibly angered by an obscene gesture one protester made in Trump's direction, grabbed a protester by the neck and punched him. In ABC News' video of the incident, the man can be seen grabbing at other protesters as they were removed from the stadium. "The dishonest media will not report that," Trump said. "They say we're bad people, they're not going to report that."

The Washington Post reports that repeated interruptions from protesters created a tense atmosphere in the stadium, where Trump attacked Hillary Clinton for Friday's "basket of deplorables" remark. "While my opponent slams you as deplorable and irredeemable, I call you hard-working American patriots who love your country," said Trump, who didn't mention her illness. "Hillary Clinton has been running a hate-filled and negative campaign, with no policy, no solutions, and no ideas," he said. "By contrast, I've been going around the country offering very detailed plans for reform and change." (The founder of LinkedIn has pledged up to $5 million to an effort to get Trump to release his tax returns.)
