Stocks closed solidly higher on Wall Street after several companies delivered positive surprises in their quarterly earnings reports, the AP reports. Netflix soared 19% Tuesday after reporting results that were far better than analysts were expecting. Goldman Sachs rose 2% and Comerica gained 4% after both banks also reported better-than-expected results. Safe-play stocks lagged the market. Phone companies had the smallest gain in the Standard & Poor's 500 index. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 75 points, or 0.4%, to 18,161. The S&P 500 index climbed 13 points, or 0.6%, to 2,139.
