The pieces are starting to fall into place for a Donald Trump presidency, and on Wednesday that came in the form of two major legislative appointments. New York Sen. Chuck Schumer received a unanimous vote by Senate Democrats during a closed-door meeting to become the minority leader who will succeed Harry Reid, who's retiring in January, the AP reports. Across the aisle, in what the Los Angeles Times says was another unanimous decision, Senate Republicans re-elected Mitch McConnell as majority leader. McConnell first took on the post when Republicans gained control of the Senate in 2015, after eight years serving as minority leader. Although McConnell kept a wary distance from Trump during the campaign, he's now rallying behind the president-elect. Republicans are likely to have a 52-48 advantage in the incoming Senate.
