It appears President Trump is no fan of Stephen Colbert, telling Time there's "nothing funny" about the late-night host, a "no-talent guy" who says "filthy" things. The Guardian reports the president is likely still steamed about an insult-filled Late Show monologue last week that drew a lot of attention. "It only builds up my base. It only helps me, people like him," Trump says in his interview with Time. Meanwhile, he takes credit for Colbert's success, claiming CBS was "going to take him off television" until Colbert turned his ratings around by going after Trump. Since the election, The Late Show has become the most-watched late-night show, beating Jimmy Fallon by more than 400,000 nightly viewers.

Vanity Fair has a quick fact check of Trump's anti-Colbert rant, pointing out CBS has said the rumor it was going to can Colbert was untrue and also that it's unlikely, as Trump claimed, that children are watching The Late Show at 11:30pm. During the interview, Trump also wrongly bragged that his appearance on The Late Show gave Colbert his highest ratings ever. Trump's episode was actually 2 million viewers short of The Late Show's top episode. For his part, Colbert tells the Hollywood Reporter he'd gladly trade his ratings for a "better president." Trump also had harsh words for other members of the media during his Time interview, calling Don Lemon "perhaps the dumbest person in broadcasting" and Chris Cuomo "a chained lunatic."
