Gains in technology and materials companies were mostly outweighed by losses elsewhere on Wall Street, leaving major indexes mixed at the closing bell, the AP reports. Facebook rose 1.4% Monday, while Microsoft gained 0.7%. Banks, health care, and real estate companies fell. Abercrombie & Fitch plunged 21% after the clothing seller said it was no longer seeking a sale. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2 points, or 0.1%, to 2,427. The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 5 points to 21,408. The Nasdaq composite increased 23 points, or 0.4%, to 6,176. Small-company stocks fell. The Russell 2000 lost 7 points, or 0.5%, to 1,408. About as many stocks rose as fell on the New York Stock Exchange. (More stock market stories.)
