Is America ready for Senator Rock? Kid Rock strongly hinted Wednesday that he's planning a run for the US Senate from his home state of Michigan for the 2018 election, reports USA Today. The rocker—whose real name is Robert Ritchie—tweeted that the KidRockforSenate.com website is real and that he'll be making a "major announcement" in the near future. The website has a picture of Rock in a plush office and slogans including "Party to the People" and "Are You Scared?" The site is also selling "Kid Rock for US Senate" T-shirts, yard signs, hats, and bumper stickers.
Kid Rock has supported Republican candidates, including Mitt Romney and President Trump. In April, he joined Ted Nugent and Sarah Palin for a White House visit. Political consultant Tom Shields tells the Detroit Free Press that he's not convinced the run is for real, but it's certainly possible. "I thought Trump was kidding when he first got in the presidential race, but I'm not surprised by anything anymore," he says. "And Kid Rock has been to the White House, which is more than most of us can say." If he wins the Republican nomination, Kid Rock will be running against Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow, who said Wednesday that they "share a love of music." She concedes he is "better at playing the guitar." (More Kid Rock stories.)
