A French singer whose career was on the rise collapsed and died on stage, reports the BBC. Barbara Weldens, 35, had been performing as part of a music festival in the village of Goudron. It wasn't immediately clear what happened, but police are investigating the possibility that she was electrocuted by an equipment malfunction, per the Independent. She suffered an apparent cardiac arrest.
Stories about the tragedy are pointing out that Weldens won the Jacques Brel Young Talent competition only last year, and she followed that up with the release of her first album, Le Grand H de l'Homme, in February.
