Former Democrat Joe Lieberman could cross the aisle in primetime to give a speech in support of John McCain at September's Republican National Convention, the Hill reports. The Connecticut Independent hasn't been tapped yet, but told reporters, “If Sen. McCain, who I support so strongly, asked me to do it, if he thinks it will help him, I will."
Lieberman doesn't think it likely he'll be called upon to give a keynote speech, but expects to take the podium in some form. The onetime Democratic nominee for veep could help draw moderate or undecided voters to McCain's side, but a speech at the RNC could also hurt Lieberman's standing among the Democrats he caucuses with in the Senate.
