More troubling news amid an already tense week: The Lincoln Memorial was defaced with profane graffiti that was discovered Tuesday, reports Reuters. "F--- law" appeared to be spray-painted in red on one of the monument's white columns, though based on a National Park Service photo, there's some confusion, with some on Twitter speculating the second word may have said "Islam" instead of "law." Per the AP, the NPS says the message was sprayed onto the memorial sometime early Tuesday, making it the second time this year it's been vandalized. A "gel-type architectural paint stripper safe for use on historic stone" is being used to scrub the column clean, the NPS notes. The BBC reports that other "undecipherable graffiti" was found on a nearby sign directing visitors to the Smithsonian Institution. (More Lincoln Memorial stories.)
