Steve Bannon appears on 60 Minutes Sunday, and CBS is providing an early look at his interview with Charlie Rose. In two snippets, Bannon criticizes the Catholic Church over its opposition to Trump's DACA decision and makes clear that he intends to support the president from his new post outside the White House:

  • Trump: Bannon calls himself a "street fighter" and says it's why he gets along with the like-minded president. He tells Rose that his main role now at Breitbart is to be Trump's "wingman outside for the entire time." He again defends the president's response after Charlottesville in regard to keeping monuments up—"Where does this end? ... Does it end in taking down the Washington Monument?"—and says advisers such as Gary Cohn who broke with the president over the issue should have resigned. See the transcript here.

  • Catholic Church: Rose calls Bannon a "good Catholic" and challenges him about his own church's criticism of Trump's move to end protection for young immigrants. Bannon says the church has been "terrible" on the issue because it has an "economic interest in unlimited immigration." That is, it needs "illegal aliens to fill the churches." He says he respects the church on religious doctrine, but "this is about the sovereignty of a nation, and in that regard, they're just another guy with an opinion." See the transcript here.
