Three children, one a baby, were killed inside a California apartment by their father following an altercation with his wife, authorities say. California Highway Patrol officers arrested Robert Hodges, 33, on Interstate 80 in Sacramento around midnight Thursday, the AP reports. He is being held without bail. The children were killed at the family's West Sacramento apartment after 9pm Wednesday. Police and first responders tried life-saving measures on the children, but all three were pronounced dead at the scene. Yolo County Chief Deputy Coroner Gina Moya says they are 11-year-old Kelvin Hodges, 9-year-old Julie Hodges, and Lucas Hodges, who was born in January and was nearly 8 months old.
Police have not revealed how the children were killed. Moya says the results of autopsies are expected to be released Friday. West Sacramento Police Sgt. Roger Kinney says the mother was a victim of domestic violence, but he didn't know the extent of her injuries. He says the mother was close by when the killings occurred but didn't witness them. William Crawford says he had a friendly relationship with his neighbors across the hall the entire time they lived there, about seven years. "It's just unbelievable. I mean, what's the explanation? He must have went crazy," says Crawford. He says he never saw signs of child abuse or heard the parents fight. (More child murder stories.)
