One person who's been quiet till now about the sexual misconduct accusations against Louis CK is fellow comic Sarah Silverman, who's been close friends with CK for most of her adult life. But in what the Hollywood Reporter notes is an "incredibly poignant episode" of her I Love You, America show on Hulu, Silverman finally addresses the "elephant masturbating in the room" and talks about her struggle to reconcile her friendship with CK and the way he "wielded his power with woman in f---ed-up ways." (See the video here.) It's a topic she didn't want to speak on at all. "I really, really, really don't want to," says Silverman, whose sister recently tweeted about her own long-ago "compulsive, rude & gross" experience with CK, whom she once dated, per the Washington Post and New York Times.
But Silverman also acknowledges that "this moment in time is essential" to start taking people to task and holding them "accountable" for transgressions like the ones Louis CK has perpetrated. And that means that people will have to come to terms that "we will discover bad things about people we like, or in some cases, people we love." And that's the predicament she finds herself in now, she notes: "It's a real mindf---, you know, because I love Louis. But Louis did these things. Both of those statements are true, so I just keep asking myself, 'Can you love someone who did bad things?'" It's a question she tables for now, saying full attention for the time being needs to be placed on the victims' stories and their voices.
