Guards Thought He Was Taking a Shower. He Had Other Plans
Christopher Nicholas Carroll is on the run.   (Lamar County Sheriff's Office)

It may not have been the sophisticated escapes of the movies, but it worked just the same. Georgia inmate Christopher Carroll is on the run after busting through a shower wall with a metal rod, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Guards thought Carroll was taking a shower in the Lamar County Jail shortly after midnight, but authorities say he instead used the rod he took from a table to make a hole big enough to shimmy through, per WSB-TV and 11Alive. He then vacated the jail itself by squeezing through an access door in a storage area before escaping the premises through a hole in the fence.

At that point, Carroll managed to steal a county van, which authorities later found abandoned in his native South Carolina. The state patrol there is now helping in the hunt. Carroll had been in the jail awaiting transfer to prison on three counts of obstruction of an officer and one count of theft by receiving stolen property. The inmate is 5-9 and 165 pounds, but his most telling feature would be the orange prison jumpsuit he was last seen wearing. (More escaped criminal stories.)
