President Trump has blown the best offer he is likely to get for border wall funding, Democrats say. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says an offer he made for wall funding in exchange for a DACA deal has been yanked, Politico reports. He says the offer was made around noon Friday as part of an effort to avoid a shutdown and was withdrawn late Sunday. "The thought was that we could come to an agreement that afternoon, the president would announce his support, and the Senate and the House would get it done and it would be on the president’s desk," Schumer says. "He didn't do that. So we’re going to have to start on a new basis and so the wall offer is off the table."

Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn says the Schumer offer was around $25 billion, though the Democrat's office hasn't confirmed it. Cornyn calls the withdrawal of the offer "a step backward," the Washington Post reports. Schumer is now facing a backlash from Democrats who say he caved in to Trump and other Republicans too easily—and is also being mocked by Trump. "Cryin' Chuck Schumer fully understands, especially after his humiliating defeat, that if there is no Wall, there is no DACA," Trump tweeted Tuesday. "We must have safety and security, together with a strong Military, for our great people!" Sens. Lindsey Graham and Dick Durbin are working on a bipartisan deal, though White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says it will be "dead on arrival." (Read more Chuck Schumer stories.)
