When the Trumps met the Obamas outside the White House on Inauguration Day in 2017, a brief moment caused a bit of a stir online. Melania Trump presented Michelle Obama with a gift in a Tiffany's box, and something seemed ... a little off. Now, Michelle Obama explains to Ellen DeGeneres that the gift caught her by surprise. "I mean, this is like a state visit, so they tell you that you're going to do this, they're going to stand here," she says, per CNN. "Never before do you get this gift, so I'm sort of like OK ... what am I supposed to do with this gift?"
The former first lady says she was flummoxed— "I'm thinking, 'Do we take the picture with (it)?'"—and no staffers were coming to the rescue. Then her husband, the outgoing president, solved the problem. "He grabbed the box and took it back inside." As for the gift itself: It was a "lovely frame."
