A service dog has his own photo in an upstate New York middle school's yearbook. Oscer accompanies 14-year-old Hudson Golebiewski, an eighth-grader who has autism, to the Vestal Middle School. Like the other students, the 3-year-old golden retriever was photographed against a gray background and was placed in the book next to Hudson (check out the photo here). Per the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, a puppy photo of Oscer also showed up in the yearbook, included with the baby photos all the eighth-graders got to show off of themselves. Oscer started making the school rounds with Hudson in 2015, when Hudson was in sixth grade.
When he's not helping his human friend around the school halls, the golden retriever plays fetch with him at home, sleeps next to Hudson, and has even gone on a few rides with Hudson at Disney World when they vacationed there. "He listens to me," Hudson says. Assistant principal Ashley McKenna initiated the idea of including Oscer's picture in the yearbook. Hudson's mother, Bethany Golebiewski, tells the Press she's happy Oscer has been a part of her son's journey. As for Hudson, he was thrilled when he saw the yearbook photo of Oscer, who will accompany him in the fall to the high school. "[It] made me feel happy," he says.
