An Oregon woman survived nearly a week after her vehicle reportedly plunged some 200 feet off a seaside California cliff. Per SFGate, Angela Hernandez was found Friday by beachgoers south of Big Sur. Hernandez was injured but able to walk and talk, according to Monterey County Sheriff’s Cmdr. John Thornburg. The department tweeted Friday evening to say that Hernandez was safe after she'd been reported missing some six days earlier. Hernandez told authorities she'd been stranded at the edge of the Pacific along central California's rugged coast since July 6.
The details of her accident remain unclear, but one theory is that she lost control on a winding stretch of road. A signal from her cell phone had last been detected last Saturday, but disappeared shortly thereafter. Search teams had been combing Highway 1 because Hernandez was last seen in surveillance footage on the roadway near Carmel as she made her way from Portland to her sister's home in Southern California, per ABC 7. Rescuers arrived Friday and found Hernandez's white Jeep Patriot partially submerged in water. She was transported to a hospital with a shoulder injury. (More missing woman stories.)
