The Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt divorce seems to be getting more acrimonious by the day. After Jolie's lawyers claimed he had paid no "meaningful" child support and Pitt's lawyers countered that he had loaned her $8 million to buy a home, Jolie fired back with another statement issued through a lawyer, noting, among other things, that the loan came with interest, People reports. Lawyer Samantha Bley DeJean said Jolie's court filing this week was both accurate and appropriate, while Pitt's response was a "blatant attempt to obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not fully met his legal obligations to support the children."
Pitt was asked to help buy a new home for Jolie and their six children after they split in September 2016 after he chose to keep the one they had been living in, but he decided on a loan instead and is charging her interest, Bley DeJean said. "A loan is not, however, child support and to represent it as such is misleading and inaccurate," she said, per USA Today. "Angelina is asking Brad to pay 50% of the children’s expenses. He has not," the lawyer added, addressing Pitt's claim to have paid $1.3 million in expenses. "Angelina has had to shoulder the majority of those without his contribution for the past two years," she said. "Child support is not optional in California.
