What do Kendrick Lamar, Robert Mueller, and the Parkland students have in common? They all land on Vanity Fair's 2018 "New Establishment" list, a hard-to-define (just check out the magazine's subhead) collection of "disruptors"—fresh faces and familiar ones "up to fresh tricks"—as they help craft the world around us. Some standouts among the CEOs, world leaders, and celebrities:

  • Robert Mueller: He takes the top spot, 'cause who doesn't know his name by now?
  • Jeff Bezos: In the No. 2 spot, he's perhaps better known as "money bags."
  • Michelle Obama: With a memoir and Netflix deal, the former first lady is the top-ranked woman at No. 6.
  • Mark Zuckerberg: At No. 7, the CEO "continues to exercise nearly unchecked power at Facebook."
  • Beyonce: "A cultural figure well beyond the realm of music," she comes in eighth.
  • Serena Williams: The world's highest-paid female athlete and "winningest player in modern history" sits at No. 14.
  • The "#MeToo Muckrakers": In the 17th spot, Ronan Farrow, Jodi Kantor, and Megan Twohey get credit for opening "the floodgates of #MeToo journalism."

  • Kendrick Lamar: His album DAMN earned him high praise, a Pulitzer Prize, and the 21st spot.
  • Parkland students: One of the largest marches in US history was the work of Emma Gonzalez, David Hogg, and classmates, sitting at No. 31.
  • Christopher Steele: The former British spy and dossier author—who just broke his silence—holds a "mythic reputation on the left." He's at No. 38.
  • Vladimir Putin: At No. 58, Putin is described as an "election meddler" and commander of fear.
  • The "Talking Heads": Cable-news anchors are seeing their stars rise as "celebrities of the Trump era." They sit at 86.
  • The "Ground-Breakers": At No. 94, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Andrew Gillum, and Beto O'Rourke are described as "the left's best hope."
  • Kylie Jenner: Her $900 million fortune and 100% stake in Kylie Cosmetics nabs her the 100th spot.
