Investigators are still trying to piece together what caused a high-speed passenger train to crash in Taiwan over the weekend, killing at least 18 and injuring nearly 200 others. Now, via Taiwan News, surveillance footage has emerged showing the horrifying moment when the Puyuma Express cars derailed Sunday around a bend in the tracks in Yilan. The 13-second video shows the train as it approaches the curve, then flies off the tracks in a cloud of smoke, knocking down poles and other structures as it goes out of frame. Per Taiwan's Central News Agency, via the Wall Street Journal, the Taiwan Railways Administration suspects the driver may have flicked off a safety feature that throws on the brakes automatically if the train is going too fast, though the agency's director-general warns it's still too early to know for sure.
