Cops: 'Sociopath' Kid Strangled Mom After Fight Over Grades
Gregory Ramos   (Volusia County Sheriff's Office)

The murder of Gail Cleavenger is as gruesome as it is chilling, with the local sheriff telling Fox 35 that the case is "one of the most disturbing and saddest I've seen in my career." Police in Volusia County, Fla., have charged Cleavenger's 15-year-old son, Gregory Logan Ramos, with strangling his mother in the early hours of Friday after the pair argued about a D grade he'd gotten in school. Sometime around midnight, police say Ramos entered his mother's room and strangled her, he thought to death; as he moved her with a wheelbarrow, he discovered she was still alive. Per Sheriff Mike Chitwood: "So he went back to strangle her again. Keep in mind, he didn’t strangle her with a rope, he used his bare hands, which by his estimate, took him 30 minutes to kill her." Ramos told police he later buried his mother beneath a fire pit and staged a burglary at the house with the help of two friends, who are also charged.

When Ramos' story began to unravel, however, he confessed to the murder and led authorities to the scene in what Chitwood describes as "his hour to shine. He got out of the back of that police car and bouncing on his toes, so excited to get back here—with us trailing him—to reenact what occurred." Ramos stands charged with first degree murder, notes People, and cops aren't mincing words in describing the teen: Sgt. AJ Pagliari, who interrogated Ramos, called him "Very cold, calculating, unemotional,” he said. "Very proud of what he did. He wanted me to go to the crime scene and admire his work." Further, "he's probably one of the top three sociopaths I've come across." Adds to Chitwood to ClickOrlando: "He is a soulless individual who thought he was gonna outsmart everyone in the room."
