In August 2014, then-Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Lance Mason punched his wife repeatedly and slammed her head against the car's dashboard. The force of the assault broke her orbital bone; the Ohio couple's children were in the back seat at the time. Now, Aisha Fraser Mason is dead, allegedly by the same man's hands. WKYC reports the 44-year-old Woodbury Elementary School teacher was stabbed to death Saturday morning and found in her driveway; Mason allegedly tried to flee the scene and hit a police car in the process, injuring himself and an officer. He was subsequently arrested.
Cleveland.com reports Lance Mason was sentenced to two years in prison over the 2014 assault and served nine months. As part of his release, he wrote Fraser Mason a letter that explained he "failed as a husband, father, and a man" and would work to become better in the latter two categories; Fraser Mason filed for divorce shortly after the assault, though it hadn't been finalized at the time of her death. Mason can no longer serve as a judge and saw his law license indefinitely suspended, but he was hired last year by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson as a minority business development director. He was fired after news of the arrest broke. A
