It's a jarring warning: "If another young, Black gay man overdoses or worse dies at Democratic donor Ed Buck’s apartment it’s going to be the fault of the sheriff’s dept and L.A. District Atty for not stopping him when they had the opportunity to." Jasmyne Cannick tweeted that in July 2018 after looking extensively in the death of a 26-year-old black man at Buck's residence in West Hollywood, reports NBC News. No criminal charges resulted in that case. This week, another black man did indeed die of a suspected drug overdose at Buck's apartment, and investigators are again looking into it. On her website, Cannick has a series of reports alleging that Buck is a "predator" who lures black men to his residence to pay them for sex and gives them meth injections, per NBC.

The most recent man to die was 55-year-old Timothy Dean, and detectives say they are now taking another look at the first death, that of Gemmel Moore, reports the Los Angeles Times. Entries from Moore's own journal blame Buck for getting him addicted to meth, according to Cannick. Buck's attorney, meanwhile, has said Dean took drugs at another location and arrived at Buck's house "intoxicated." As the investigation unfolds, Democratic politicians are under growing pressure to return any money they received from Buck, and some have begun doing so, reports Fox News. “I received a campaign contribution from Ed Buck and have donated the amount I received to a local charity, the Kenneth Young Center, to combat drug addiction,” said Illinois Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi. (More overdose stories.)
