Shutdown Impact: Airports With the Worst Wait Times

With no end in sight to the government shutdown and TSA experiencing higher than normal absence rates, how are the security lines at airports? Not too bad, according to a press release from the agency that notes "national average wait times are within normal TSA times of 30 minutes for standard lanes." But some airports are experiencing longer than normal wait times, and the agency released a list of the top 42 US airports and the maximum wait times experienced there on Monday. The worst? Minneapolis-St. Paul at 46 minutes. The Pioneer Press has a graphic showing how average wait time at the airport has gradually increased as the shutdown drags on; it was just 20 minutes on Jan. 14. But just four airports on the TSA's list experienced maximum wait times of longer than 30 minutes Monday. The rest of the top (or bottom, depending how you look at it) 10:

  1. Newark (EWR): 40 minutes
  2. Baltimore (BWI): 36 minutes
  3. Seattle (SEA): 33 minutes
  4. Atlanta (ATL): 29 minutes
  5. Miami (MIA): 28 minutes
  6. Honolulu (HNL): 28 minutes
  7. New York LaGuardia (LGA): 24 minutes
  8. Tampa (TPA): 23 minutes
  9. Houston (HOU): 23 minutes
